week 9: NASTY

Explanation: My apologies for the lack of clarity in this photo. I stupidly forgot to put the flash on and by the time I realized, Adam had already consumed these nasty suckers! I don’t consider myself to be an overly picky eater…but if there is one thing that I will NEVER acquire a taste for…it’s shellfish. These here are two oysters that he ordered from Offshore Ale Company during our visit in beautiful Martha’s Vineyard. We had just escaped a HORRENDOUS storm by mere minutes, that even caused the power to go out for a second in the restaurant. In Offshore’s defense Adam said they were delicious. I guess it’s just my own frame of mind that believes they are nasty!

Explanation: When we picked this word I immediately thought of some weird fungus I had seen growing outside on the mulch, but then the maintenance guy removed all of it, so I couldn’t get the shot I want. This photo is my dog Waffle after being at the dog park and getting wet and rolling around in the dirt. He was so filthy and nasty after this that he got an immediate bath - it was bad.

Week 9: SETTING

Explanation: As much as I hate picking the obvious definition, when I took this picture I decided that this would be the one. This was taken at Castle Island in South Boston. Adam and I took a nice walk there last Sunday evening. It was a perfect way to wind down from a very busy weekend consisting of going to the Zoo, a Beer tasting event, dinner with friends and a Portuguese Feast in my hometown. It’s scenery like this that makes me so thankful that I’m within driving distance of the ocean.

Explanation: I feel like every week we have a word that sounds so easy, and then every (or most every) it turns out to be harder than I expected. When I heard the words a few ideas popped into my head, the setting sun and the settings on a table being the top two. Little secret here - the sun wasn’t exactly setting when I took this - it was only about 6pm. Using the effects on my phone I was able to create a more “setting sun” look. It’s a new app I happened upon recently that has been getting a lot of use. (it’s called phototreats)

week 8: SHORTEST

Explanation: Pretty self explanatory here. Adam (my boyfriend) and I went to the Cape Anne Brewery in Gloucester, MA on Sunday. Up until we got there, it was pretty a disappointing day. Our original plan was to spend the day at the beach, but apparently we weren’t the only people who had that idea as every beach we tried was closed. We decided to just say to hell with it and grab some drinks here which had a beautiful deck with a great view of the harbor. All and all turned out to be a good day after all. Cheers!

Explanation: When the word “shortest” came up on the random word generator and we decided to go with it, the first thing that popped into my mind was the chalk I had. I’m not sure why, though I had taken a photo of it a while ago that I really liked and it made me think of that photo and the varying sizes of the chalk. I placed them on the floor in the sun the other day and fell in love with the results. It was really hard for me to choose just one.

week 7: ANIMAL

Explanation: Meet Hammy.This little guy is part of the Animal World Experience team. A friend of mine owns and runs this animal program who has a great goal: “…to provide fun, interactive, and educational animal presentations to audiences of all ages.” I stand by everything they do as it’s important for kids to know and understand the responsibilities of owning any pet. Whether it’s a dog, cat or even a hedgehog. :)

Explanation: I have a million and one photos of my dog I could’ve chosen from, but then Monday we were by the pool and I was trying to get Waffle to sit so I could get a cute photo of him by the pretty blue flowers and he refused. When I was going through the photos I took that day I came across this one and loved it. I just love his little tush!

week 6: DEVOTED

Explanation: Like Caitlin, I too was picturing a cute old couple sitting on a bench defining “devoted”, but I didn’t come across that opportunity either. So this was the next best thing I could find. Any dog owner will tell you, just how devoted dogs are. This picture is of my dog Mia (the brindle) and my friends dog Arlo (the boxer). Both of them truly are devoted to making their owners happy. You can have the worst day and all it takes is an enthusiastic butt wiggle from Arlo (he doesn’t have much of a tail…) or Mia’s “rapid fire kisses” to make you forget anything and everything that upset you that day.

Explanation: Another hard week. In my head I pictured taking a photo of some old couple cuddled on a park bench, but that never happened so I went with a literal take on the word. I’m also slightly obsessed with Scrabble, so it was fitting to me personally.

week 5: DELICIOUS

Explanation: Ok, so this isn’t my greatest photo, but given the events surrounding the evening, I just had to use it. This here is the remnants of my supper the night the Bruins won the Stanley Cup! A very exciting night for us Bruins fans as the last time they won was 1972! So, as you can imagine this was a big win for us! Who would have thought at the start of the season we’d be grilling up some delicious chicken, eating corn on the cobb and watching the B’s take the cup! GO BRUINS!

Explanation: I had a hard time deciding on which of my photos to use. Use a photo I really liked, but knew nothing about the food it showed? Or use the above that includes one of my favorite, and I think very delicious, drinks? Well I chose the above. Nothing better on a nice, hot summer day than a Large, Dark Roast, Mocha Ice Coffee with just a drop of milk and three sweet’n’lows from Dunkin’ Donut’s! Yummmm!! The photo was also taken at one of my (and Waffle’s - my dog) favorite places: the trail to the dog park!

week 4: RELIGIOUS

Explanation: Contrary to our belief, “Religious” proved to be a rather difficult subject for Caitlin and I. As I was sitting next to my friend Krupa at Mead Hall in Cambridge on Saturday, I noticed this symbol around her neck. The Om or Aum is actually a pretty complex symbol in Hinduism, but in a nutshell it essentially means the circle of life. Encompassing the past, present and future as well as life, birth; life, death.

Explanation: When the random word generator chose “Religious” I was pretty excited, I thought it was going to be fairly easy. There is a really nice church near my place that I intended on getting a photo of. However, the weather had other plans and it has been rainy and overcast, which wasn’t what I had envisioned for my photo. The week ticked past and I had no other great ideas. I chose the photo of this angel we have hanging over the door to our apartment. It belongs to my boyfriend and I think someone, maybe his mom, had given it to him as a gift years ago. I am not religious at all, but I really like this piece, it is made of wood and very earthy.
